Dr. Tom Elkin, a native of Kosciusko, joined the pastoral staff of First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, in 2009, after retiring as a clinical psychologist and Adjunct Staff Minister at Independent Presbyterian Church In Memphis. He was the featured speaker at our annual “Dwell Richly” Weekend conference. He addressed us on the topic of Christian marriage and family in four sessions from Friday through Sunday the 13th through the 15th of April 2012. The book of Hebrews was written to struggling, discouraged Christians. They were experiencing persecution because of their faith. How do Christians endure in the face of such opposition and distress? We must consider Jesus! The author of Hebrews paints a beautiful portrait of our Savior, showing Him to be our supreme Revelation, Prophet, High Priest and Atoning Sacrifice. When we see Jesus for who He really is, we can “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering” (Hebrews 10:23). Will you consider Jesus with me?

“Leviticus. The third book of the Bible famous for its tediousness and its ability to take down any earnest effort to read all the way through the Bible. In our day, the book of Leviticus stands as a major stumbling block for the religiously skeptical and an embarrassment for the devout. But, if we can make some sense of the message behind this book, it means that we have to listen to every inch of the Bible’s revelation to mankind. Truth be told: the book is the scaffolding of the message of Jesus. Miss this book, and the majority of Jesus’ words remain unintelligible.”
