Our scheduled sermon from the book of Hebrews for the evening of Sunday, May 6, 2012 was postponed until later as the congregation of First Pres gathered for mutual comfort and prayer in the wake of learning of the death earlier in the day of Dr. Gary Holdiness. Gary was our beloved brother in Christ, friend, and, for a number of us, trusted physician.

The service was opened in prayer for the family of Dr. Holdiness and we, the body of Christ at First Pres who now mourn his loss, but who also celebrate his home-going to Heaven. We then sang the hymns For All the Saints and Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners! This was followed by a time of prayers offered by church officers and members. Finally, we ended our time together by singing Blest Be the Tie that Binds.
