Presbyterian Day School
We’re Growing…
In 1984, First Presbyterian Church Preschool and Kindergarten was established as a ministry of the church. From the beginning, we have enjoyed a reputation of excellence. In 1998, first through sixth grades were added. PDS is the right choice for families who want academic excellence from a Christian world and life view in a Christian environment.
Admissions Policy…
PDS admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
Faculty and Accreditation…
Teachers must be dedicated to Christian and Classical education and meet the highest standards for teacher training. They must excel in educational, spiritual, and practical qualifications and subscribe to the standards and philosophy of the school. PDS is a member of ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and intends to seek accreditation.
Curriculum…
Every student is unique and precious to the Lord and to us as parents or educators. We are mindful of God’s will that children are to be taught the content and practical applications of His Word in every aspect of learning and every activity of life. To that end, a curriculum has been chosen which will provide challenging, interesting, and well-balanced courses taught from a distinctly Christian approach.
- Reading - The Abeka series is used in Kindergarten. Saxon Phonics and Abeka readers provide our first and second graders with a solid foundation. Beginning with the third grade, The Open Court series serves as the basic reader; a love for good literature is developed by exposure to both classical and international works. Numerous materials are used to enhance our students’ comprehension, vocabulary, and study skills.
- Language – The Shurley Method is the most astounding and effective grammar program available. You won’t believe what your children will accomplish!
- Math - Abeka math is used in kindergarten. Starting in first grade we use Saxon Math, which is a powerful and thorough “incremental approach” to math which continues to drill, drill, and drill the way math needs to be taught.
- Science – Christian Schools International rests on a Christian philosophy.
- History – Bob Jones Heritage Studies reveals God’s dealings with men’s actions through time in all places. Teachers use many other resources to supplement the text.
- Bible – Conservative, evangelical materials that apply the Bible to student’s lives.
- Latin – About 50% of English words come from Latin. It has been estimated that for every year one studies Latin, 500 to 1,000 new English words are gained! Latin begins in third grade.
- Logic – Introductory Logic is the science and the art of reason. As a science, logic identifies the rules by which we reason; as an art, it teaches how to follow those rules.
- Music, Art, P.E., and Conversational Spanish
Mission Statement and Objectives…
Knowing that “the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever,” our school is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge, ability, and motivation to reflect God’s glory in every area of life. (I Corinthians 10:31).
We acknowledge that all education is religious in nature, proceeding from the convictions of our faith.
Presbyterian Day School exists to help its students grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, and academically in a manner pleasing to the God we worship.
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36
- We are Committed to the Spiritual Growth of Our Students, assisting parents in their Biblical responsibility to “bring up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4
- We are Committed to Academic Excellence, cultivating the full intellectual, physical,
and artistic potential of each student with challenging curricula and Biblical reasoning. - We are Committed to Cultivating Servant-Leaders in the Next Generation, helping students recognize that the Biblical model of leadership is serving!
