Women in the Church

The purpose of the Women In the Church is that every woman know Christ personally and be committed to extending His kingdom in her life, home, church, community, and throughout the world.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 Peter 4:10-11a

WIC? What is the WIC?

The WIC is Women In the Church – all of the ladies at FPC. Women of every age and stage are members of the WIC. The WIC serves, often behind the scenes, to support the work and worship of our church in many ways. Are you looking for a way to get involved in the Church, a way to get to know other ladies?

Try serving on one of these committees!

The Absent Members/Visitors Committee focuses on reaching out to members who, for one reason or another, we haven’t seen around in a while and also to those who visit. Committee members pray for, contact, and/or send cards to these church members and visitors. If you want to help, contact Judy Palmertree (289-6181).

The Church Fellowship Committee is responsible for organizing refreshments, flowers, and other setup needs for fellowship events on an as-needed basis. Members help to plan and execute any Dinner on the Grounds or other special church-wide event. Interested? Contact Sandra Fowler (289.3967).

The Flowers & Christmas Décor Committees coordinate the placement of flowers in the Sanctuary each Sunday and decorate the church for Christmas. If you’d like to help or want to provide flowers, contact Judi Bell (289.4761). If you’d like to help specifically with decorating for Christmas, call Leisa Terrell (289.6013).

The Grief Outreach Committee strives to support families during the difficult time following the loss of family members by sending cards on behalf of the WIC and by organizing a meal for the family at the time of a funeral. To assist in reaching out to these church families, please contact Deborah Templeton (289.9546).

The Hospitality Committee assists the church in finding housing and meals for visiting missionaries, special speakers, WIC event speakers, and visiting preachers. If you would be willing to help organize or to volunteer your home or table, contact Angela Thomas (289.9794).

The Missions Committee communicates with our missionaries both by mail and e-mail. They find opportunities for women to participate in outreach and evangelism programs and present their ideas to the WIC Council. The Committee is also responsible for working with the WIC Council to plan a program with a missions theme a few weeks before the annual Missions Conference. If you’d like to help, contact Melody Guy (662.633.0129).

The New Babies Committee members get to see all of the new babies in our congregation! Members have a crib Bible prepared and present it to each new infant. They also organize the provision of a week of meals for all new mothers and go on a “check up” visit to see how the family is adjusting to their new little one! To serve on the committee or to provide meals for a new mom contact Christi Sims (289.7917) or Judy Palmertree (289.6181).

The Nursery Committee also sees a lot of our youngest saints. Members of this committee establish rules for the nursery helpers and for parents with children in the nursery, oversee the care of the nursery, and enlist the help of volunteers to care for our little ones. If you would like to serve on the committee or if you’d like to volunteer in the nursery, please contact Chris Potts (289.6881).

Every lady is a member of the Prayer Committee and may be called on to pray for special needs in the church. What a privilege to bear one another’s burdens!

The Sacraments Committee serves the whole body at very specific times – during a Baptism and during Communion. Members fill and place the Baptismal bowl before a service and then return it to storage after use. They also are responsible for setting up for and cleaning up after Communion. To serve on this committee, contact Mary Denny (662.528.6384).

The Visiting Committee makes a special effort to love the members of our church who can’t physically worship with us. They visit our elderly and shut-in members both at home and in care facilities. To become a member of this committee, contact Nancy Heilbronner (289.4985) or Sally Wasson (289.2533).

The Wedding Liaisons Committee serves as the contact for bridal parties in our church. Members implement the guidelines for brides and weddings at FPC. (The document with these guidelines is available in the church office.) If you are interested in this committee, contact Teresa Paton (289.1753).

The Wedding Book in the Brides’ Room contains photos and newspaper clippings of weddings at FPC and serves as an important historical record. If you’d like to help keep the Wedding Book updated, contact Christi Sims (289-7917).
